What is an IMEI?
An IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is the 15-digit number that identifies a phone on mobile networks. The first 8 digits (the TAC) identify the model, the next 6 are the phone’s serial number, and the last digit is a check digit that catches typing mistakes.
Carriers block stolen phones by IMEI, which is why checking it before you buy a used phone matters. See how an IMEI is built.
Questions
Is this IMEI check free?
Yes. Validation, model lookup and every tool on this site are free, with no account and no limits.
Can I check if a phone is stolen or blacklisted?
Yes, with the official service for your country, which is free. After you check an IMEI here, we show a one-tap button to the right one: the CTIA Stolen Phone Checker in the US, Sanchar Saathi in India, AMTA in Australia, BTRC NEIR in Bangladesh, PTA DIRBS in Pakistan and others. Lost and stolen status comes from carriers and the GSMA, so official services are the reliable source.
Can I check if Find My (iCloud Activation Lock) is on?
Apple removed its public Activation Lock checker in 2017, so no website can read it directly from Apple. The reliable check takes a minute on the iPhone itself: the seller signs out of their Apple Account, then erases the phone while you watch. If it then asks for someone else’s Apple Account, it is locked. Our result screen shows these steps for the exact device.
What does a “valid” IMEI mean?
The 15th digit (the check digit) matches the first 14, so the number was most likely typed or read correctly. It does not prove the IMEI belongs to the phone in your hand. Compare it with *#06#, the box and the SIM tray.
Why is my phone’s model not found?
Open TAC data covers 22,524 TACs, but not every allocation. New models, regional variants and carrier-specific TACs can be missing. An unknown TAC does not mean the IMEI is fake.
Is it safe to enter my IMEI here?
Yes. The check runs in your browser. To identify the model, the page downloads a small file covering every TAC that starts with the same four digits, so our server never receives your IMEI. We don’t put IMEIs in URLs, analytics, logs or storage.
My phone has two IMEIs. Which one do I check?
Dual-SIM phones have one IMEI per SIM slot, usually with the same model. Paste both on separate lines to check them together. For stolen-phone checks, check each IMEI.
